What is the best directed movie???

anyone seen seven samuri, good film if you've got 3 hours to spare. cant remember who directed it but they have just released a load of his films on dvd.

The Seven Samurai is a great flick. If you like it check out Yojimbo. Thats another great flick. Both are directed by Akara Kurisowa. (spelling).

Pulp Fiction isn't all that well directed- it's too long and it lags at major points (e.g. Butch and his girlfriend drivelling on about nothing in their bedroom- Tarantino's trying to copy a similar scene in Godard's 'A bout de souffle' but it falls flat).

I never give actors or directors that much credit (Kubrick has NEVER dissappointed me) unless they are consistantly good. Apparently Dr Strangelove was regarded as a poor script but was so well directed you can't tell unless you actually read the script without ever having seen the film. However, I think Kubrick at least co-wrote the screenplay from the book so it makes a difference if the director does this because he has his vision in mind while writing it.

Moulin Rouge - bad script, amazing directing! (had to think about that one Rar)
This list is bloody endless, you cant pin down "THE" best directed movie... impossible without seeing every movie in the world

How can you say Moulin Rouge was a bad script? That script was very intragent! I have seen that movie several times and the way the script is written, the actors constently indirectly forshadow to events that will happen. Everytime I watch it I notice something new about the diolouge. It is written so well that it can be taken so many ways and it reenforces the main theme of the story over and over again. I highly disagree with you on that point. I think Moulin Rouge was well well written and made an amazing movie.
